The Short Version
My name is Simone Grissom. I run Evenline Bookkeeping out of Columbia, South Carolina. I help small business owners get their financial records straight so they can stop worrying about the books and start making decisions based on real numbers.
I'm not a CPA. I'm not an accounting firm. I'm a bookkeeper who has spent the last 15 years learning what small businesses actually need from their financial records, and it's not what most bookkeepers and accountants are selling.
The Longer Version
My husband Chris has owned a Colors on Parade franchise for over 15 years. It's a mobile auto body repair business - dent repair, paint touch-ups, the kind of work where he's driving a van to dealerships and managing supplies and subcontractors and insurance payments that don't come in like normal invoices.
When we started, we couldn't afford an accountant to handle the bookkeeping. The ones in our price range didn't take the time to understand how a franchise auto body business actually works. They didn't know how we got paid, they didn't understand the expense structure, and the reports they sent back didn't match our reality. We kept thinking we had the wrong accountant. Turns out, we had the wrong expectations. We needed a bookkeeper who understood the business, not just the numbers.
So I became that bookkeeper. I taught myself QuickBooks. I figured out how to build a chart of accounts that actually reflected how Chris's business operated. I learned how to read a Profit & Loss statement and know whether we had a good quarter or a problem we needed to deal with before it got worse.
I've also spent over a decade as an office manager at Clean Metro, an industrial cleaning company. Different industry, same lesson: small businesses run on tight margins and the financial side can't be an afterthought. You have to stay on top of it, and someone has to be willing to pay attention to the details.
Over the years, people started coming to me for help. A friend of ours with an old-school business who saves every receipt but has no idea how to get them into a system. An esthetician just starting her own practice who needed someone to keep her books straight while she focused on growing. Word of mouth, one person at a time, because they knew I could do it and trusted me to get it right.
Evenline is me turning that into a real business.
What I Think Most Bookkeepers Get Wrong
The biggest complaint I hear from people who've worked with a bookkeeper or accountant before is the same thing I experienced with Chris's business: lack of feedback.
They reconcile your accounts. They send you a report. And then you don't hear from them until next month, or next quarter, or tax time. If something in your numbers is trending in the wrong direction, nobody tells you. If you made more this quarter than you expected and should be thinking about setting money aside for taxes, nobody mentions it. You get clean books, but you don't get any insight into what those books mean for your business.
That's the gap I'm trying to fill.
When I send you your Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet, I've already read them. If something stands out - a line item that jumped, an expense category that's creeping up, a quarter that looks meaningfully different from the last one - I'm going to flag it. I'm not telling you what to do. I'm not giving tax advice. But I am going to say "you might want to talk to your accountant about this" or "this line is worth keeping an eye on."
I think of it as being a third leg for your business. You're doing the work. Your accountant handles the taxes. I'm the one in between, keeping the records straight and making sure you know what's happening in your own numbers before it's too late to do anything about it.

What I do:

QuickBooks Online exclusively. It's what I've worked in for 15 years and it's what allows me to deliver consistent, accurate results.
What I don't do:
Tax filing, tax advice, insurance billing, CRM integrations, or any platform other than QuickBooks.
Credentials:
QuickBooks Certified. 15 years of hands-on bookkeeping experience managing the books for a franchise business, plus over a decade in office management and financial operations at an industrial cleaning company.
